Are You Madoff Proof?

Bernard Madoff ran the biggest "Ponzi scheme" in history. He stole billions of dollars from well-healed investors, institutions and charities. His malfeasance went undetected for years. How did this happen? How do you make sure it does not happen to you? Mr. Madoff was a long-time Wall Street insider and former chairman of the Nasdaq stock market who used his status to bilk investors. He claimed he had a unique investment system involving options (puts, calls and collars) that consistently prod… Continue

10 Steps to make 2009 Less Busy, More Fruitful

Are you busy or fruitful? I heard this question recently, and it caused me to think about how the busyness of life can keep us from the important things, the goals we want to achieve in our families and professional lives. We are called to be fruitful, but often we find ourselves busy, but not bearing much good fruit. I’m not one to make resolutions each year, but I am one to evaluate what is working and what isn’t. Look back at your 2008—was it very productive? Or were you frequently overwhelme… Continue

INDIANAPOLIS – Month after month, Central Indiana housing inventory steadily declined during 2008, with November showing a 13 percent drop, or 2,513 fewer homes on the market, compared to the same time last year, according to active listings statistics compiled December 8 by F.C. Staging Your Home

Home sellers need to know that staging your home can actually help you sell your house! Hiring a professional stager not only prepares your home for those coming to your open house, but also places it in it's best possible light thus enhancing its positive qualities. These qualities will help potential buyers visualize their belongings in your home while accentuating your home's unique features. As Medical Expenses Rise, Don't Miss Key Deductions

There are plenty of horror stories about uncovered medical expenses these days, and the truly horrifying part is that many of them belong to people who actually have health insurance. But anytime you or a family member is facing a health crisis or an unusual medical-related expense, it's best to check to see if you might get a break from Uncle Sam. Don't Miss Deductions! A tax professional and a financial planner should be consulted to determine whether there are any tax issues or any ways to d… Continue

How Does Happiness Spread?

“Come On, Get Happy!” Do you remember this 1970 theme song from the Partridge Family? I guarantee it will put a smile on your face if you spend 30 seconds on YouTube to hear it again. I dare you not to sing along. It’s what came into my mind as I read recent results of a 20-year study on how our social network impacts our happiness. One highlight is that happy people tend to be connected to other happy people, and geographical closeness i… Continue

It’s been shown to help you create greater wealth and better health. Studies show it leads to longer life, healthier children and increased happiness. Looking for Media Attention? Pitch Now!

The holidays can actually be a good time to pitch a story to the media. Why? Because many of their sources are taking time off for the holidays, while they are still trying to make deadlines. In addition, you'd have to be living in a cave to see that many media outlets are facing layoffs and working with smaller staffs. Anything you can do to make their job easier will be appreciated. If you don't have a background in public relations, there are quite a few resources online where you can learn… Continue

Show Me the Money!

Is there a lot of conflict at your house about money, especially with the economy sliding? Do you Make a Difference to Someone?

Do you ever lament that you didn’t live up to a certain ideal or potential in life? Do you wish you could have a big impact on the world? Do you ever dream you could be great at something? I have, especially when I watch a great musical performer. I wonder what it’s like to have such a huge talent, but I’ve learned to just appreciate each person’s gifts. I used to think I should be responsible for something great in life, but I have changed my perspective. That is not to say I believe anyone sho… Continue
